Lizardfolk: Battle Royale
be me, LizarDM
be not me; lizardfolk fighter, lizardfolk cleric, lizardfolk paladin, kobold bard and drow bard
following the end of our campaign, we decided that a battle royale among the characters would be fun, so here it is. There is no story to this and is completely out of canon, just for fun. That being said, enjoy!
the party all stand in the ruins of Noxver Keep, completely empty but for the sound of bats screeching and the distant howls of wolves
the rogue runs down a corridor, crouching behind a statue as he peers around the corner
after checking that it’s clear, he continues to run, making his way through the building
he stops when he comes across a massive hole in the Keep wall, left from the siege of the castle
he peers around, spying the cleric walking along the outer walls of the castle
he raises his crossbow and launches a shot, barely missing the lizardfolk
he launches another shot before taking cover in the hallway
the cleric growls and takes cover, peeking over the merlons to see into the hole, noticing that the rogue has disappeared
he creeps towards a slightly collapsed tower in order to get a better view and spies the fighter moving past the hole, apparently sneaking after the rogue
he decides to ignore him for now, instead spying the paladin on the opposite wall of the main bailey
he holds up his hand and launches a guiding bolt, the radiant energy slamming into the paladin’s armoured side
the paladin roars and begins sprinting along the wall, trying desperately to close the distance
he comes across a massive portion of the wall that has collapsed and speeds up, leaping over it
he scrambles to his feet and begins to make his way up the tower
the fighter sneaks along the corridor, tracking the rogue through the briefest hint of his footprints in the dust
he stops when he hears metal hit the stone floor
he turns the corner, seeing that the bard had found the rogue first, heating his sword up to burning temperatures and forcing him to drop it
the rogue runs forward, drawing his dagger and slashing at her, forcing the kobold to back up under a barrage of slashes
she strums her kalimba and he yells out as he’s thrown back by a thunderwave, giving her room to back up a little more
the fighter springs out from his cover, drawing his flaming sword and the rogue sees it, holding out his hand
the fighter yells out as he trips over the unseen servant crouching in front of him, sending him to the ground
the rogue suddenly freezes up, his limbs locked in place
the bard, having cast hold person, begins to run down the corridor, placing as much distance between herself and the two close range fighters
the fighter gets up and grabs the rogue by the throat, throwing him to the ground
the fighter slices at him twice, carving into him with vicious ferocity
the rogue breaks out of the hold person and lets out a long whistle
the fighter looks up just in time to be bowled over by the spectral form of the rogue’s worg
the rogue kicks open a door and takes a second to whistle again, causing the worg to grab the fighter by the shoulder and begin to drag him down the corridor before he steps inside
the fighter slashes at the worg, dispelling it, before climbing to his feet
he sees the bard raise her kalimba and strum it and looks down, seeing his body begin to fade
he opens his eyes, finding himself in the city of Brass on the elemental plane of fire, having been banished

the paladin climbs the last few steps of the tower and lets out a yell as the cleric buries the spiritual sword into his back
his pain is amplified as necrotic energy swarms through him
the paladin falls to his knees and presses his hand against his chest, using a lot of his lay on hands to steady himself
he stands up and turns to face the cleric, swirling his sword
the cleric’s eyes glow green for a second and spiritual figures begin to float around him, the fallen tribe members and lizardfolk of the party
he grins and steps forward, swinging his sword in a wicked arc
the paladin deflects the blade barely and yells out as the spirits begin to tear into his skin
he swings his sword, grunting in frustration as the cleric deflects it
he swings again and catches the lizardfolk on the chest
he roars, and a clap of thunder erupts between them, throwing the cleric back against the merlons of the wall
he realizes his mistake as he tries to move forward, the spirits slowing him down to the point where he remains just out of reach of his foe
the cleric throws his sword, watching it slice open the paladin’s face, and thrusts his palm forward, hitting the paladin with a blast of radiant energy
he steps up onto the tower wall and begins to climb down, making his way to the wall below
the paladin runs down the stairs, trying to catch up and cries out as he hits the ground floor, a vine flicking up from the courtyard to wrap around his ankle
he tries to cut it in time but yells out as he is yanked off the wall and falls to the courtyard below
he hits the ground with a resounding thud and slowly climbs to his feet, shaking off the dirt
he looks up and sees the cleric standing above him, spirits swirling around him and sword in hand
the paladin makes a run for the stairs leading up to the wall, only seeing the ghostly creature standing there at the last second
he barely makes out the visage of a fey like monster before he’s thrown back, his body burning with radiant energy
* * * * *
the rogue walks through a dining room, seeing an empty fireplace and the painted visage of Baron Ardonus Highwater situated above it
he grabs a fork from the dining table and throws it at the painting
he’s about to enter another room when he hears the strum of a kalimba behind him
he turns, seeing the cutlery on the table slowly begin to float
“oh you mother f*cker”
a barrage of forks, knives and spoons begin to race towards him, throwing themselves at him and stabbing him in every place imaginable
he holds out his hand and several of the forks stop in midair, imbedded in his unseen servant
he sees the bard on the other end of the room and narrows his eyes
“walk forward”
using the unseen servant as a human shield, he begins to march through the barrage of cutlery, making his way towards the calmly waiting bard
he raises his crossbow and leans out from behind his ‘cover’, taking a shot at the bard
the ground beneath her erupts up and he sees a spark as if the arrow had been deflected
he steps out from behind the unseen servant and runs up, jumping off the table to get over the makeshift wall
he brings down his dagger and frowns as the bard remains standing
she gives him a wave and the illusion disappears
the rogue lets out a yell as a lightning bolt hits him in the back, sending electricity coursing through his body
he turns around, seeing the bard on the other side of the room
she strums her kalimba and he groans in frustration as he begins to dance, twirling around and throwing his hands about with reckless abandon
“you’re a sadistic bitch. Just kill me”
the cutlery turns towards him and rush at him, striking him over and over and over again, filling him with pieces of metal
he breaks out of his dance and brushes off the cutlery, sprinting towards her
she raises his kalimba and he flicks his hand
she lets out a squeak as his mage hand grabs one of her horns and yanks her off balance, letting him close the distance uninterrupted
he grabs his dagger and stabs her in the stomach, he grabs his dagger and tries to finish her off when the fighter walks through the door, throwing a javelin
the javelin hits him in the back and he yells out, falling over the side of the table
the bard looks up at him and strums her kalimba
his limbs begin to lock up before he shakes his head, pushing aside the effect
the bard begins to flee into the next room and the fighter throws a javelin, the door closing behind her barely saving her from impalement
the rogue climbs to his feet, swaying slightly as the fighter draws his sword
“I’m not losing to you, dickhead”
he points at the fighter’s sword and a sphere of darkness surrounds him
using the distraction, the rogue sprints into the hallway, escaping the fighter’s wrath for now
* * * * *
the paladin glares up at the cleric and places a hand against his chest, healing some of his wounds
he walks up to the stairs and dodges a swing from the guardian there, ducking under it and slicing with his greatsword
the sword slices into the guardian’s torso and he casts dispel magic at 4th level, banishing the creation
he begins to run up the stairs, making his way towards the cleric
the paladin rushes towards him and the cleric begins to whisper fervently
the paladin hears a low buzzing and yells out as a swarm of insects surround him, biting and stinging him in every place they can
the cleric takes a few steps back and throws the sword, watching it slice into the paladin’s chest
the paladin marches through the pain and dashes to get as close as possible
the cleric growls at him and the sword stabs into the paladin’s back before the cleric throws a hook that cracks against the paladin’s jaw
the paladin roars out as necrotic energy courses through him and the cleric steps back as radiant energy swarms over him too
the two stumble away from each other and stare each other down
after a moment, the paladin falls to his knees
the cleric, dragging himself over, raises his sword and decapitates him
* * * * *
the fighter kicks down a door and steps into the room, his sword lighting the way
the room is a ball room, cloth covered chairs surrounding the border of the dance floor
he stares around the room and after a moment swings his sword
sparks emerge from it and light the cloth one of the chairs
the fire begins to spread around the room, lighting each chair as it goes
the rogue rolls out from underneath a chair as the fire reaches him and he launches a crossbow shot
the fighter growls as the bolt imbeds itself in his chest
the fighter stumbles back and the rogue points at the door
“kaboom!”
a glyph carved into the door lights up red and the fighter roars as the door detonates
he charges towards the rogue and the rogue holds out his hand, casting tenser’s floating disk
the fighter tries to swing at him but the rogue leaps over his head, sprinting past him to get out the door
the fighter turns and chases
he steps out into the hallway and ducks his head back just in time to avoid a crossbow bolt that would have hit him between the eyes
he lifts a javelin and throws it back, seeing the rogue duck behind an armour stand just in time
the rogue launches another shot and the fighter hides behind the door
he looks at the frame and growls, slicing his sword at the hinges
they come off with a crack and the fighter grabs the door handle, dragging his makeshift shield into the hallway
the fighter marches down the corridor, stopping every few seconds as another crossbow bolt hits the shield
he hears the rogue swear and then the sound of running footsteps
he puts down the door and lets it fall to the ground
he turns the corridor and sees the rogue disappear into another room
Highwater’s throne room
he peeks inside and sees the rogue standing in the centre, chest heaving, dagger at his side
the fighter walks in, sword raised
“you be running?”
the rogue shakes his head
“nah, I ran out of crossbow bolts”
the fighter nods and settles into a stance, the sword leaving embers in the air
the rogue holds up his hand
“just one thing before we start hitting each other. You do realize that Toma is going to win if you kill me, yeah? You’re a smart guy, but you know. She can take over people”
the fighter shrugs
“kill her before she tries”
the rogue nods
“very well then. Come at me lizard man”
the fighter runs forward and the rogue’s eyes widen at the speed of his approach
he ducks under a swing of the sword and dodges a stab, the fighter catches his leg and the rogue stumbles and hits the ground
the fighter surges and the rogue rolls, trying desperately to avoid the fighter’s onslaught
even so, he can’t help the sword catching his side and back as he rolls, tearing through his armour like tissue paper
he climbs to his feet and jumps back, imitating a pull in the air
the mage hand fishhooks the fighter, pulling his head back, allowing the rogue to charge in
the fighter roars as the rogue slashes across his chest, the second burying itself deep into his torso
the fighter grabs the rogue and pulls him close, ignoring the dagger in his body, and closes his jaws around the rogue’s shoulder
the rogue yells out as the fighter’s teeth dig further into him and the fighter yanks the dagger out of his chest, plunging it into the rogue’s stomach
the rogue begins to swell in size and the fighter quickly retracts his mouth before his jaw breaks
the rogue grabs the fighter’s head and knees him in the stomach before kicking him away
the fighter rolls forward and slices the rogue’s leg at the knee, sending the larger drow to the ground where he begins to shrink
the fighter grabs the rogue and throws him into a wall before slicing him open with a quick strike with his sword
the rogue grabs his stomach and looks up at the fighter
“dickhead”
he collapses to the ground and begins bleeding out on the ground
* * * * *
the cleric walks along the corridors of the Keep, having made his way inside
he turns a corner and spots the bard
he raises his hand to launch a guiding bolt when she turns around and strums her kalimba
he stares at her, and the helplessness on her face, and slowly lowers his hand
she smiles and for a second, he feels that all is right
and then she strums her kalimba
the cleric frowns as he feels something in his brain shift
he raises his hand to summon his spiritual weapon and instead feels nothing
his brain begins to pound with a migraine as he slowly forgets his connection with the Ancient One, his connection with magic, who the person in front of him is, who he is
in the span of a few seconds, the cleric is left as little more than a beast, his mind left scrambled and empty
the bard raises her kalimba and releases a lightning bolt
the cleric roars as he’s hit with the lightning, and he stares up at her, no longer seeing her as an enemy, but as prey
the bard realizes her horrible mistake and launches spell after spell but the cleric powers through them, pouncing on her
she tries to hold him off, but he easily overpowers her and with a final cry, he cuts her life short with a bite to the throat
the cleric growls as a javelin pierces his side, and he looks up from his meal, seeing the bloodied and wounded fighter standing there
the cleric rushes him and the fighter steps to the side, throwing his enemy aside with a kick
the cleric tries to climb to his feet but the fighter pins him down with his foot and with a final stab of his sword, kills him
and so ended the battle royale, leaving Chahask Werren as the winner
